This term, in English, we will be developing our reading skills through a range of challenging texts, including Boy in the Tower and When the Sky Falls. We will be writing information texts, journey stories, newspaper reports, flashback narratives and poetry, while continuing to strengthen our grammar, punctuation and vocabulary through the study of word classes, adverbials, connectives and increasingly sophisticated sentence structures.
In Mathematics, we will be building confidence with place value, written methods for all four operations, properties of number, fractions, decimals and percentages, helping us become fluent and accurate mathematicians.
In Science, we will be investigating how living things are classified before learning more about animals, including humans, and how our bodies function and change.
In Religious Education, we will be exploring the topics of Creation and Covenant, Prophecy and Promise, and Galilee to Jerusalem, deepening our understanding of scripture and God's relationship with people throughout history.
In History, we will begin our study of conflict through time, investigating how warfare and conflict have changed throughout different periods of history. In Geography, we will be exploring biomes around the world, learning about different climates, ecosystems and environments.
In Computing, we will develop essential computer skills, including word processing, presentations and spreadsheets, before learning more about computer systems and networks.
Our creative curriculum will include designing powerful propaganda posters in Art and creating felt phone cases in Design Technology. In Music, we will develop our performance skills by learning to play and perform across an octave with increasing confidence and accuracy. In French, we will learn how to describe houses and homes using a wider range of vocabulary. In PE, we will develop teamwork, fitness and resilience through football, netball, outdoor education, sports-hall athletics and multi-skills activities. Through PSHE, we will explore self-awareness, emotional wellbeing and our understanding of how we are called to live as caring and responsible members of our community.
This term, in English, we will be studying Holes and a variety of other texts as we prepare for the next stage of our learning. We will be writing biographies, survival stories, diary entries inspired by Anne Frank, poetry and explanation texts linked to our science learning. Alongside this, we will continue to develop our grammar skills through work on punctuation, prefixes and suffixes, tenses, the subjunctive mood and more advanced sentence structures.
In Mathematics, we will be developing our understanding of ratio, proportion, algebra and time before moving on to measurement, area, perimeter, volume and angles.
In Science, we will be exploring inheritance and evolution, learning how characteristics are passed on and how living things adapt over time.
In Religious Education, we will continue our study of Galilee to Jerusalem before exploring Desert to Garden, reflecting on key events within the Christian faith and their significance for believers today.
In History, we will continue our study of conflict through time, examining significant events and the impact they have had on society. In Geography, we will begin learning about North America, exploring its physical features, climate, countries and diverse environments.
In Computing, we will build our programming skills through a range of coding projects, developing our understanding of algorithms and problem solving.
In Art, we will create sculptures inspired by the human form, experimenting with shape, structure and texture. In Music, we will develop our singing skills through work on harmony and octave ranges. In French, we will learn to talk about our hometowns and local areas with increasing confidence. In PE, we will participate in gymnastics, dance, hockey and rugby, continuing to build strength, coordination and teamwork. Through PSHE, we will explore identity, relationships and the understanding that each person is uniquely created and valued.
This term, in English, we will be writing mystery stories and discussion texts, including letter writing linked to Holes. We will also complete transition projects to help prepare us for the move to secondary school, applying all of the reading and writing skills we have developed throughout Year 6.
In Mathematics, we will focus on geometry, position and direction, statistics and properties of shape before completing transition work to prepare for Year 7.
In Science, we will investigate electricity and light through practical enquiries, building our understanding of how scientific concepts influence everyday life.
In Religious Education, we will explore the topics To the Ends of the Earth and Dialogue and Encounter, considering how faith inspires action and how people of different beliefs can learn from one another.
In History, we will study crime and punishment through the ages, examining how laws, justice and punishments have changed over time. In Geography, we will continue our exploration of North America, developing our understanding of the region's landscapes, people and cultures.
In Computing, we will develop our creativity through 3D modelling and website design, applying our digital skills to a variety of exciting projects.
Our creative curriculum will include mixed media artwork and creating props for the Year 6 production in Art, as well as preparing and evaluating a vegetable curry in Design Technology. In Music, we will refine our performance skills and showcase our talents through the Year 6 production. In French, we will learn language linked to everyday activities and things to do when out and about. In PE, we will develop our skills through cricket, athletics, rounders and swimming. Through PSHE, we will focus on our role within the wider community, preparing for transition to secondary school and the opportunities and responsibilities that lie ahead.
