This term, in English, we will be developing our phonics, reading and writing skills through a range of exciting texts and activities. We will learn to read with increasing fluency and confidence while exploring traditional tales, stories with familiar settings, poetry and instructional writing. We will continue to build our vocabulary, handwriting and sentence-writing skills as we become more independent writers.
In Mathematics, we will be developing our understanding of place value, addition and subtraction, before exploring the properties of 2D and 3D shapes through practical activities.
In Science, we will be learning about animals, including humans, exploring the human body, our senses and what living things need to survive.
In Religious Education, we will be exploring the topics Creation and Covenant and Prophecy and Promise, helping us learn about God's creation and the story of Jesus' birth.
In History, we will investigate how toys have changed over time and compare toys from the past with those children enjoy today. In Geography, we will explore Where I Live, learning about our local area and the features of our community.
In Computing, we will learn about technology in everyday life and develop our creativity through digital painting activities.
Our creative curriculum will include drawing and creating local landscape artwork in Art, as well as designing moving picture cards in Design Technology. In Music, we will explore rhythm and prepare for our Christmas Nativity performance. In PE, we will develop our coordination and control through ball skills activities using both our feet and hands. Through PSHE, we will learn about being unique, keeping healthy, managing feelings and understanding life cycles and change.
This term, in English, we will continue building our reading fluency and comprehension skills while exploring poetry, recounts and meeting tales. We will use our growing phonics knowledge to become increasingly confident readers and writers.
In Mathematics, we will revisit place value and addition and subtraction before learning about length, height, mass and volume through practical investigations.
In Science, we will learn about Earth and Space before investigating different materials and their properties.
In Religious Education, we will explore Galilee to Jerusalem and Desert to Garden, learning about Jesus' life, teachings and the events of Easter.
In History, we will learn about significant women from the past and discover how they have made a difference to our world.
In Computing, we will begin programming by learning how to move and control a robot, before exploring how information can be grouped and organised.
In Art, we will create colourful abstract paintings inspired by famous artists. In Design Technology, we will design and make textile products using fossil-inspired patterns. In Music, we will develop our understanding of pulse and rhythm through percussion and movement activities. In PE, we will build confidence through dance and gymnastics. Through PSHE, we will learn about kindness, friendships, online safety, personal boundaries and making positive choices.
This term, in English, we will continue to strengthen our reading and writing skills through poetry, persuasive writing, advertisements, disaster tales and discussions. We will apply all of the knowledge and skills we have developed throughout the year to become confident communicators.
In Mathematics, we will be exploring multiplication and division, fractions, position and direction, money and time, applying our understanding through practical problem-solving activities.
In Science, we will investigate plants and how they grow before learning about forces and magnets through practical experiments and observations.
In Religious Education, we will explore To the Ends of the Earth and Dialogue and Encounter, learning how people share their faith and how different communities and beliefs can come together respectfully.
In Geography, we will investigate Wonderful Weather, learning about different types of weather and how they affect our environment and daily lives.
In Computing, we will develop our digital writing skills and create simple programmed animations.
Our creative curriculum will include creating clay action figure sculptures in Art and preparing healthy fruit smoothies in Design Technology. In Music, we will develop our performance skills through ensemble work and end-of-year performances. In PE, we will take part in invasion games and multi-skills activities to build teamwork, agility and coordination. Through PSHE, we will learn about communities, helping others, understanding our needs and wants, and thinking about our future aspirations as we prepare for Year 2.
