Year 1 and 2 Sandcastle Challenge

Hello, Year 1 and year 2,

We hope you are all well and looking forward to some sunshine.  Every year on the first Friday in July year 1 and year 2 enter a Sandcastle Competition run by Children North East.  Unfortunately, this competition will not be going ahead this year but that does not mean we can’t still have fun!

Each year we are given a theme and we work in groups to plan and build a fantastic sand creation.  This year we are challenging year 1 and year 2 to work on their own to plan and build a sand creation with the theme of St Matthew’s.  You can do this by building something at the beach (social distancing rules apply), building something in a sandpit (if you have one), being creative and building a model with anything you choose!

The theme is St Matthew’s and we would like you to think about what St Matthew’s means to you.  What do you enjoy about St Matthew’s? What do you like at St Matthew’s? What would you like to see at St Matthew’s? its up to you, just use your imagination.

To enter our special competition, we would like you to create a plan and build your creation.  Take a photo of your plan and your creation an email it to your teacher or upload it onto your Google Classroom.

Usually after the sandcastles are built, we all have a picnic lunch and watch a Punch and Judy show together.  Maybe you could have a picnic with your family and watch a Punch and Judy show together?  Here’s one you might like to watch.

This is an example of something you could do.

At St Matthew’s our Mission Statement is

“Welcome to our happy school, where everyone is valued and given the opportunity to ‘let their light shine’.  With Jesus in our heats, we encourage love and respect for all.  We strive to reach our goals, as we learn, and grow, in a safe and enjoyable environment.”

We have used ‘Let your light shine’ as inspiration for our sand creation, what will you use to inspire your creation?

We hope you have lots of fun with this task and we look forward to seeing all your photographs.  Please get your entry in before 3rd July.

Good luck

Mrs Longster and Mrs Aitchison
