St Matthew’s complete historic Diocesan Double
St Matthew’s have ended their football season by winning the Northern Cross Cup – their 10th trophy of the year. The girls followed in the mixed teams footsteps from Friday night, by claiming the title after 2 brilliant wins and 1 draw. We believe this is the first time the same school has won both Diocesan trophies in the same year.
However, the girls had to overcome witnessing a terrible injury to star winger, Ellie, who was taken to hospital with a broken and dislocated wrist. Naturally, the girls were really shaken and had mixed feelings about continuing but they all decided to do it ‘for Ellie’.
The girls were quite simply brilliant in their final two games and lifted the trophy in Ellie’s name.
It wasn’t the end to an unbelievable season we had hoped for, but the memory of such a brilliant team spirit amongst the girls will stay with us all for ever.
A brilliant season girls! We are all so incredibly proud of you
