Some of the children in Reception were intrigued with the ice today! They discussed how the water turns to ice when it gets cold. They told me that ice is water that freezes and if we put it in the sun it will melt and go back to water again. The children were very excited when they noticed the water in the buckets and containers had frozen over and there was lots of discussion about how it freezes and how they could melt it. We experimented with different materials to see what worked best to break up the ice. They then placed some of the ice in the sun to watch it melt as well as observing it when water was poured over. At tidy up time the children filled containers with water to leave overnight…………I wonder what will happen to the water!!!
