On Tuesday, we celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style with lots of activities in school, culminating in a brilliant family picnic, organised by our incredible ‘Friends of St Matthew’s group. During the day, the children took part in ‘tug of war’ competitions; they drew portraits of the Queen; made their own regal crowns (kindly donated by our FOSM group); completed work on a chosen decade and completed a variety of Jubilee themed activities. Before heading to the picnic, the children each received a special commemorative medal, inscribed with ‘St Matthew’s 2022’, as a keepsake of the day.
Despite the weather, the picnic was a huge success and it was fantastic to see so many families attend the event – all dressed in their red, white and blue. We all enjoyed picnic teas; cakes; face painting; music and dancing; Royal themed games and even a Royal Procession. It was a day full of fun, laughter and memories to stay with the children for ever. IMG_4328
A huge thank you to this group of exceptional volunteers. Despite the torrential rain, they still pulled off a fantastic family Jubilee event. St Matthew’s is so lucky to have such an amazing ‘Friends of’ group. On behalf of all of the children and families of St Matthew’s, we thank them for giving up so much of their time to create such fabulous events. We can’t wait for the next one!
