Good morning Year 6. New work has been uploaded onto Google Classroom – it was lovely to see you ‘hand in’ so much lovely work.. If you can’t remember how to access Google Classroom, send me a message and I will help. However the work that has been uploaded today is listed below:
Maths
Arithmetic fluency –
Visit maths.co.uk.
It is the 15 question one – so not as long as yesterday.
A couple of pointers:
Remember when you are adding or subtracting fractions with different denominators – – you must make them the same!
We haven’t done % yet – but to find 10% you simply divide by 10. So if the question asks for 20% – divide by 10 then x by 2!
Use some paper to do your workings out – rather than trying to write it on the screen.
Spelling
Task 1
Use WordWall to practice nouns v verbs – As a final part of our work on the spellings from last week, I would like you to visit Wordwall
https://wordwall.net/resource/48407385 and complete the timed activity. Who can be at the top of the leaderboard? I will keep an eye on it!
Task 2
We are moving on to look at prefixes in spelling.
Task 1 – go to https://wordwall.net/resource/10664542 and see if you can find words with the prefix ir, il, in and im.
Task 2 – go through the slides and see if you can unscramble the words. All of the answers are on one of the first few slides. When you unscramble them you will see a number underneath some of the boxes. For your final task, you must write the missing letters into the final ‘code’. If you are unsure, send me a message! 🙂

Grammar – Prefixes
A prefix is a group of letters that come before a word.
For example – un – unkind, unlikely, unfortunate
Work through the 3 tasks on the Google docs/Word document. You can write directly into the boxes and onto the google doc art the end.

Reading – (connected to the Geography task)
Task 1 – Reading Task
Read through the slides about The Rainforest – (this will give you some background information about the murder of Chico Mendez) and answer the questions at the end. You can write directly into the boxes.
[Template] Reading_Geography Wednesday Spring Week 3
Geography
In our next Geography lesson, we will looking at Chico Mendez – a man who was trying to protect the Amazon Rainforest. Today, could you create an information poster about the Rainforest. You could include text and pictures. You could include: The Location, what the weather is like; what kind of animals live there; why is the rainforest in danger, what are people around the world trying to do to protect the Rainforest. You could use the text from the reading task to help you.
You can do it on paper or word or google slides/docs.
ICT
Visit Tinkercad at https://www.tinkercad.com/joinclass/BFQFBSTWT.
The class code is BFQFFBTWT.
Be creative – can you design a room in a house; a classroom; a setting for a possible story?
Once you have created it, use the snipping tool like I did on Friday and save it as a picture. You can then upload the picture! I can’t wait to see your designs!
Science
Work through the Powerpoint. Watch the video from the link, then attempt to label the lungs. You can write directly into the boxes. Then can you either research about the lungs and write ‘true’ or ‘false’ in each box or you could make me a factsheet about the lungs – using words and pictures.

Good morning Year 6. New work has been uploaded onto Google Classroom – it was lovely to chat to some of you there yesterday. If you can’t remember how to access it, send me a message and I will help. However the work that has been uploaded today is listed below:
Maths
Arithmetic Fluency
We won’t be doing our usual Maths lessons, as I would prefer to do them properly when we are all back in school, but it is so important to keep our arithmetic fluency going – so there is an arithmetic paper on www.maths.co.uk for you to have a go at.
Grab some paper and give it a go.
Hit the hand in button when it is done and I will check to see how you have done.
History
Last week in History, we started work on comparing The Vikings to The Saxons.
As we can’t finish it in class at the moment, why don’t you use your ICT skills or just good old paper and pens and design a information poster about the differences between the two. You need to include a description of what they were like as soldiers , what tactics did they use and which weapons did they have. If you finish it, you can bring it into school when we are back, or email it to me so that I can out it in your History book.
RE
Lesson
1 – Draw a picture of a story from the Bible and re-tell the story
Watch https://animoto.com/play/J2gZfqL7uee42v2MMC5XbA.
The video shows pictures
from different stories in the Bible. Your task is to choose any story from
either the Old or New Testament and draw/paint/create on the computer a picture
to represent it. (If you draw it you can take a photo and send it to me). I
would then like you to write a paragraph, where you retell the story and tell
me which part of the Bible it is from. I have uploaded some examples of
pictures from the Bible to help you…but you can choose your own if you wish.

Hi Y6,
I have set you all a few tasks to ensure we can move onto the
making of the phone cases in our next lesson.
If you can’t print out the worksheets at home, simply complete on a
piece of paper. The same high standards for the presentation and content of the
completed work is expected –date, LO and all underlined OK.
There is a PowerPoint presentation to help you complete the
task worksheets independently.
The measurement task is particularly important as your first
lesson back will involve making the paper pattern template.
These are short simple tasks and shouldn’t take long to
complete. Any queries or support needed
for any task, drop me an email and I will try my best to help OK – jlimer@stmatthewsjarrow.co.uk

#Lesson Presentation Developing the Design Criteria
Grammar – there is a weekly SPAG paper on www.spag.com ready for you to have a go at.
Spelling – remember our spellings this week are practice/practise, license/licence, advice/advise, devise/devise, prophecy/prophesy. Remember to finish your homework in your spelling books and practise on www.spellingframe.co.uk – year5/6 spelling lists 48/51.
Monday 22.01.24
Hello Year 6
There is work available on maths.co.uk and spag.com. For the spag.com do the 50 questions – use the internet to help you research words you are unsure about – for example antonyms are perfect verbs.
You could practice on TTRS.
You could start to research for your independent newspaper report – I will attach the template that you will get for homework.
You could get your spelling homework done – you must have 10 sentences (5 nouns and 5 verbs) from the words we looked at last week. You can practice these on spelling frame – Spelling list year5/6 – lists 48 and 51.
If you need any usernames or passwords just let me know.
